The film, "P.S. I Love You" starring Hilary Swank (Holly)and the incredibly hot Gerard Butler (Gerry) was surprisingly good. I went with my mother and sister and fully intended to sleep through the whole thing. I cried through the whole thing instead. My mother was surprised by how many young men were there - with their dates or whatever. I was concerned with the film itself.
Holly and Gerry have been married for ten years. You can see at the beginning of the film what their relationship was like: happy, good, tense, stressful, full of fights.
Then, Gerry dies of a brain tumor. Since he saw it coming, he saw a way to help the wife he loved dearly, the wife who was his best friend, and who he knows better than anyone.
Before he died, he wrote his wife several letters, and arranged various... things so that after he died, she would have some help in the grieving process. All of his letters end with. "P.S. I love you"Holly's mother, Patricia (Kathy Bates), never liked Gerry. He was older than Holly by about 5 years, and they married young, and he never had a job she felt was any good. She especially hates when Holly goes with her two girlfriends, Denise (Lisa Kudrow) and Sharon (Gina Gershon)to visit Ireland: his homeland and where they'd met; because he set up a trip for her before she left.
This romantic comedy is amazing. It's funny and sweet and sad. It's a truly wonderful tale.
And, just in case you're curious, my favorite part happens in Ireland. There's just something about men w an accent that makes me melt...
